About Smallprof

The story

Smallprof started from an object: the Little Professor, the small orange calculator launched in 1976, which set the problem for the child instead of solving it for them. Fifty years on, the idea still holds — it is the object that aged.

Smallprof takes that principle and extends it: instead of one kind of arithmetic, sixteen maths laboratories; instead of fixed difficulty, a level that follows the child; instead of a segment display, a companion that explains. The project was built for its creator’s own children before being opened to other families, and that origin explains two decisions a conventional commercial publisher might not have made: no advertising, and no penalty for getting something wrong.

What will not change

A mistake never costs points. The child sees the correct answer, gets an explanation, and moves on — a mistake informs, it never punishes.

No advertising, no advertising trackers, and no child data sent to any third-party artificial intelligence: the engine that chooses the questions runs on explicit teaching rules, not on a language model.
